We ship most weeks. Here are the changes studios actually felt - no version-number noise, just what got better.

    Talking to clients, and who is allowed to

    Added
    • Each client can say how they would rather be reached: email, text, WhatsApp or a phone call. If they have asked you not to text them, that answer wins over the preference, and the screen says so.
    • Clients can be put into groups, so a set of people can be handled together instead of one at a time.
    • You can write a message to one client or to a group, from inside Runavel. Every recipient gets a line in the record, including the ones that were skipped and why, so a send that went to nine out of twelve says which three and for what reason.
    • WhatsApp can be switched on as a channel alongside text messages. Outside the 24 hours after a client writes to you, WhatsApp only allows approved templates, and the screen tells you that before you write rather than after.
    • An enquiry now records what the artist actually works from: a size that is a number and a unit rather than the word "small", which side of the body, whether it is a cover-up or a rework, and whether it is their first tattoo.
    • An enquiry can hold a PDF or a scan, not only a picture, and a photo taken on an iPhone is converted so you can open it instead of being refused.
    • Files can be attached while you are writing an enquiry down, not only after you have saved it and come back - which was the one moment nobody has the pictures to hand.
    • What a file is now depends on where you attached it: something the client sent, a photo of the area, or your own sketch, stencil or scan. They used to all be "reference images".

    • An account admin can now be given only the parts of the job they do. Making somebody an admin used to hand over the money screen and the client export along with everything else.
    • The age check on an enquiry records how you established it, not just that you did: a document you looked at, or a judgement about appearance. What protects an artist under UK law is a basis somebody is named on.
    • A photo of a body area cannot be attached to an enquiry until the age check is recorded. Storing a photograph of somebody who turns out to be under 18 is a criminal matter, not a data one.
    • Attachments say what they accept and how big a file may be before you choose one, announce progress as it uploads, and let you take a refused file back off the list.

    • Controls on every screen are the right height and spacing again, after the design system fell seven versions behind.
    • A click that landed in the moment between a page appearing and it becoming live is no longer swallowed.

    Settings you can find, and forms that tell you what happened

    • A day can be marked "by appointment" now, instead of only open or closed. Your diary still takes bookings on it, and nothing tells a client you are shut on a day you are working.
    • Opening hours can be copied from the day above, one row at a time, as well as across the whole week. A week where only Saturday differs no longer means typing six rows again.
    • Your studio's settings live in one place with tabs: the studio, your team, your services, what Runavel is connected to, and your data export.
    • A new Integrations tab shows what your Runavel is plugged into, and says in plain words what is not happening while something is switched off. Text reminders being off is the one that has caught people out.

    • Every form marks which fields it needs before you press save, taken from the same rule that would refuse the save.
    • The menu separates the work you do every day from the things you set up once.
    • The enquiry form no longer asks for a date of birth. It was being collected and used for nothing: what protects you under UK law is the record that you checked ID, not the date itself.
    Fixed
    • Saving a studio, booking, service, enquiry or client now says that it saved. The confirmation was being thrown away the moment the screen moved on, so every one of those forms went quiet.
    • Sections with nothing in them explain what would be there. Pending invitations used to render a title over an empty box, with nothing to read and nothing to do.

    The menu stays open, and we can see our own traffic again

    Fixed
    • On a tablet or a phone, opening the menu and then watching it shut itself a second later - before you could press anything in it. Any screen that refreshes itself was closing it.
    • Website analytics had never actually been switched on for the live site, so none of your traffic was being counted. It is on now.

    More of your clients' data encrypted at rest

    • The notes you write about a client or a booking, what a client wrote when they enquired, dates of birth and a guardian's details are now encrypted in the database, alongside the consent answers and signatures that already were. Anyone holding a copy of the database cannot read them.
    • Searching for a client by name, email or phone is untouched - those stay readable on purpose, because encrypting them would stop partial searches working.

    Erasing a client sits on their own record

    • Erasing a client's data has moved from the client list to the client's own page, so you can see whose record you are erasing rather than clicking a red word on a row.
    • The page now says what erasing keeps as well as what it removes: their payments and signed consent forms stay, because you are required to hold those.

    Less empty space above every list

    Fixed
    • Every list screen had a band of empty space between its title and the search box. The space was reserved for a status message that is usually not there, and the search bar was adding a second gap of its own.

    Filters that read as one thing

    • Filtering a list is now three matching fields on one line - search, the thing you are filtering by, and the time range. The range used to be a row of buttons that dropped onto a second row on a narrow screen.
    • Lists still narrow as you type, with no button to press.

    One width, not one per page

    Fixed
    • Every screen in the app used to be its own width - the client list, the calendar, the money screen and the forms were all different, and none of it had been decided. There are two widths now: one for ordinary screens, and the full screen for the dashboards, the calendar and the staff console.
    • The subscriptions screen listed every account with no way to narrow it. It now has the same search and filter bar as the rest of the app.

    The console we run the business from

    Added
    • Your dashboard now shows the shape of the month, not just today's numbers: money taken per month and bookings taken per week, drawn from your own figures in your studio's own time zone.
    • Every chart carries the same numbers as a table beside it, so an exact figure is always one click away and a screen reader can read it.
    Changed
    • The dashboard now updates itself when anything on it changes - a payment recorded at the front desk moves the money figure straight away, not only bookings as before.
    • Any screen that refreshes itself has a Pause control, so you can stop the numbers moving while you read them.
    • Screens full of data now use the width of the screen instead of a narrow column, while forms keep a width that is comfortable to fill in.
    • Every list that can be searched or filtered now uses the same bar, in the same place, with the controls lined up.
    Fixed
    • A row of fields that ends in a button now lines up properly - the button used to sit above the line the fields appeared to end on.
    • Search boxes no longer clash when a screen has more than one, and the label of a search box now points at the box it belongs to.

    The home page shows the real thing

    • The walk through a studio's day on the home page now shows the actual application - the calendar, a signed consent, a booking's reminders, closing up and the client record - instead of drawings of them.
